Highgate and Muswell Hill Jewish Youth Club

Founded in 1985 HMH has grown from strength to strength as a dedicated, forward thinking, inclusive club serving the Jewish community for over 40 years. HMH is proud to offer football to boys, girls, and adults and as a mark of the club’s success it has achieved the prestigious 2* FA Accreditation (previously FA Charter Standard Community Club) status. Today HMH boasts 34 teams and is proud to have offered football to hundreds and hundreds of young people over the last 43 seasons.

HMH was formed by Nick Benn out of Muswell Hill Synagogue in Tetherdown. He dreamed of creating an inclusive football club for players of all abilities. The dream was to create an environment for youth teams to progress to adult teams so that players could progress within the ‘family’ of one club.

Over the years the club has built a built a great level of camaraderie and professionalism amongst our coaches. They are all DBS checked, hold FA Coaching Qualifications (some up to UEFA Licenced level), and have undertaken First Aid and Child Safeguarding courses. Spirit of community and communication is the hallmark characteristic of HMH and this also extends to the club’s dedicated roster of volunteer managers.

In HMH’s early years, a strong association was built with the Maccabi GB AJY and Maccabi Junior Leagues. Now we are the only Jewish club affiliated to Maccabi GB with teams in both the Maccabi Southern and Junior Football Leagues.

In the early years of HMH, we started using Wingate & Finchley’s training facilities and London Borough of Barnet grass pitches to play on. More recently our relationship with PowerLeague and Barnet FC has been nurtured and we are able to make use of the top-quality pitches and facilities at Barnet FC’s home ground The Hive and PowerLeague Finchley off Summers Lane.  All HMH training takes place at PowerLeague Finchley and where our Clubhouse complete with tuck shop and old-style arcade games are located.

Our youth teams benefit from a strong collaboration with Excel Coaching, which provides professional coaching support to help create a positive football skills environment for our younger players as they start their playing journey with HMH.

Now chaired by Simon Pollock who has been involved in HMH for 12 years, and Deri Ansher, Club Secretary, supported by an excellent Management Committee. HMH is proud of is its reputation for inclusivity, respect, sporting excellence, fairness & community, and a desire to create friendships through sport. Our current Men’s 1st team has some players who first started playing for HMH at 6 years old.

The cry of “Come on you sky blues” rings out on match days and traditionally unites our players, coaches and managers with our wonderful parents and supporters and make all associated with the club proud of its history and hopeful for its future.
