I have been involved with HMH for over 20 years since my son George joined at the age of 6, first as father, then for 15 years as manager and now for the last 2 years as Chair.
What the club has given my son (and indeed me) is immeasurable – friendships for life, a caring community and of course amazing football experiences.
Now as Chair, I am working to enhance further the club’s offering to players, managers, parents and coaches, and the environment we play in.
Our ethos of “play | grow | belong” perfectly encapsulates our vision – to offer kids (both boys and girls) and adults the opportunity to play football, to grow up with the club in a team environment and to belong to a community of wonderful, like-minded, Jewish people.
Importantly we rely on our volunteer managers to set the standard for their team to play at and the culture of their individual team, all within our overriding ethos.
We have increased our training budget to increase training hours during the week and to help our teams on match days by facilitating coaches attending matches on a Sunday. This has significantly strengthened the bond between players, managers and coaches and is to the benefit of our teams on the pitch. We have invested in the latest Veo system including individual player tracking to provide our manager, coaches and players with better quality feedback.
We have also increased our administrative resources to cope with the increased number of teams.
We spend time each week reviewing the previous Sunday matches and looking forward to the following Sunday matches, such that we can provide improved training during the week, together with any requisite pastoral and other care to our teams.
The initial results are encouraging as the club has grown to 35 teams, including 5 girls teams. Dylan Dein from our U15 All Stars set a new record for the golden boot with 53 goals to help his team win the double.
And 22 years on, my son and the Men’s 1st X1 reached the pinnacle of Jewish men’s football, winning an unprecedented Jewish quadruple – something we at HMH can all be very proud of and will hopefully be emulated by others at HMH in years to come.
The future of HMH is bright and with the help of our sponsors, supporters, parents and others we have big plans to go much further! We have recently refurbished our clubhouse and we train on the newest 5G surface in London at Powerleague Finchley who have been our banner sponsors now for 15 years.
